It was as if some tremendous force had taken possession of his tired, stricken body, and carried it on with no volition of his own. Billy turned the bulky papers over and over as if to gather some hint of their meaning from fold and stiffness. “What is it, Mr. Smith?” he asked wonderingly. “Billy! Who could steal our little girl?
